The Department of Cognitive and Leaning Sciences hosted Esa Rantanen, associate professor of psychology at Rochester Institute of Technology, to present, "Temporal Awareness and Human Performance," from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, in Chem Sci 106.

Canine ErgonomicsWilliam S. "Deak" Helton, associate professor of cognitive and learning sciences, is publishing a book called "Canine Ergonomics: The Science of Working Dogs," which addresses working dogs from a scientific perspective, drawing together related research from different fields into an interdisciplinary resource of science-based information. It can be ordered from Amazon.com.

Cheryl Cohen, assistant professor of cognitive psychology at Webster University, gave a talk, "Spatial Visualization Training Using Interactive Animation," on 1 p.m., Friday, April 17, in Chem Sci 215. Cohen also visited the Psychology Senior Seminar to meet with students at an afternoon colloquium. Cohen's visit was sponsored by the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences and the Visiting Women and Minority Lecturer/Scholar Series.

Associate Professor William "Deak" Helton (Cognitive and Learning Sciences) presented three papers at the annual meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, held Sept. 23, 24 and 25 in New York, "Human Judgments of Stress State in Performance Settings," "Performance on a Sustained Attention to Response Task" and "Relationships between Caffeine Consumption, Cognitive Slips-Failures, Daily Stress and Sleep," and he also chaired the session "Individual Differences in Performance Under Stress."
